I hate that the intro of Triple C is going to be angry and hostile, but I’m hoping that it is
also deeply motivating and challenges, not only myself, but everyone reading it too.
Why? Well, because I’m trying to start a virtual riot.
I, Jasmine, am here to formally ask you to boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
As you may or may not already know, I live in Houston, one of the host cities, and I
simply cannot wrap my pretty little mind around the fact that in less than 6 months, this
city is going to be flooded with international sports fans for soccer games.
Not only can I not imagine it, but I am also pretty livid about it.
Who the actual fuck do we think we are as a country, to think that we can invite people from around the world into our cities for profit, when we are actively terrorizing our own
people and people seeking asylum.
What is happening in Minnesota and around the country is horrific under any
circumstance, on any given day, but it’s especially infuriating that we’re getting by-the-
hour updates on the horrors, while we’re also seeing the World Cup prep happen
right in front of us.
Take Houston for example, the city is pouring tens of millions of dollars into
beautifying the neighborhoods and surrounding areas where many visitors will flock to
during the games. There has been ongoing construction since early 2025 on an aggressive schedule to be completed in time.
All the while, the city is ignoring issues like power, water/sewage and the unhoused population— actually scratch that, based on history, they’ve made it clear they plan on scooping them up and pushing those who can't find room at the shelters to the outskirts of the city center for the duration of the games.
As a host city resident, sports fan and a human, I can’t sit idly by and not raise my voice
against this disgusting juxtaposition of hate and greed.
If you also feel moved to speak out against this, I’m going to leave some materials
below for your use. Whether you’re also in a host city, not in a host city but still give a
fuck or just don’t think our government should have funding for their inhumane "immigration" enforcements— there’s something here for you to share.
Thank you for caring and reading this far,
Jasmine
